A New Adventure Awaits

I was just offered a job as Project Officer at the International Association for Community Development (http://www.iacdglobal.org/) today. I have been hoping to get this job and now I am absolutely ecstatic!

As a Project Officer, I will be doing strategic planning, policy work, community development facilitation, documentation and dissemination for their 'global village residency' project. This project is working with community development practitioners in three rural UK sites (Tipperary in Ireland; Cornwall in England and Falkland in Scotland). IACD will support these communities to host an international visitor or small team of visitors from the global south to share dialogue and experiences and to create a meaningful exchange of ideas.

The other really exciting thing about this position is that it is funded by UK Carnegie Trust (http://rural.carnegieuktrust.org.uk/). They are doing amazing work in rural community development. What really excited me was the work of the RARP (Rural Action Research Programme). Check it out at: http://rural.carnegieuktrust.org.uk/rarp. The community development and action research work that is being done in the UK is truly phenomenal. I am very excited to join this Community of Practice and learn everything I can about the work that is taking place here!

I am also excited that I will be able to travel a bit with this post. First to the rural communities that the project will be working with but also to international conferences.

This feels like the perfect direction for me right now. My work with the Alliance in NYC really showed me that for social change to happen it needs to come from within and I am excited to meet amazing people and learn new skills to help support communities to make the changes they are passionate about.
